Today was my group's first day of teaching a BizMovie seminar. Although I was extremely nervous prior to teaching the reward I felt after the class was exceptional. It is an extremely great experience. Usually, from my other education classes, fieldwork sessions are one-on-one or two students. However, this experience is in front of an entire classroom of elementary students. Not only the student are watching but also our professor and the classroom teacher. As you can tell nerves can flow from this type of instruction, but surprisingly I felt extremely accomplished. It was also immensely reassuring that our students have comprehend what they have learned from all of us the past month because they answered all of our questions and could give personal examples and thoughts.
The lesson format that my group taught is known as direction instruction. This form of lesson is an instructional approach to academic subjects that emphasizes the use of carefully sequenced steps that include demonstration, modeling, guided practice, and independent application.
Our main object for this lesson was the run through out presentation by teaching the students the final vocabulary words that they would learn in this unit. After reviewing the new vocabulary, exploring examples, and answering specific student questions it was time to get to work with the students on their movies!
It is beyond exciting to finally see the students ready to create their scripts and film that will be shared with the school's second graders, teachers, colleagues, fellow college students, student's parents/guardians, and representatives from BizMovie!!
Here is a link to our group's presentation from our first seminar.
With this link you can explore what the students have learned and the hard work our group worked to put together such an interactive and technological form of presentation within the classroom.
